About Moesgaard Museum

Moesgaard Museum is located near Aarhus, Denmark. In October 2014, the museum opened its doors to a brand new and unique exhibition building designed by Henning Larsen Architects.

In the new Moesgaard Museum, breathtaking architecture combines with innovative exhibition formats to give the audience a world-class museum experience in the field of cultural history. Our aim is to tell about real people’s lives over time and space by letting great stories take centre stage, incorporating new means of presentation and providing space for emotion, contemplation and discussion.

This website is part of that ambition.

At the Ethnographic Collections at Moesgaard Museum, we have at our disposal an exceptionally rich body of historical material from Afghanistan, and this website it intended to make it accessible and place it in a present-day context. In this way, we intend to offer a more nuanced image of a country which for many has become a synonym for war and conflict. We do that by giving the floor to the Afghans themselves and by putting their society into a greater historical, cultural and social perspective.
